The transcription follows the vulgate (Gita Press-type) text with Parashara speaking to Maitreya; the pages name no printed edition, and it is not the Baroda critical edition. Metre labels, editor's notes and the '!'/'?' marks of the transcriber are removed; 'X उवाच' lines are kept in 'speaker'. Verse total 6,306. The traditional figure of 23,000 shlokas is nominal; the extant vulgate has roughly 6,000–6,400. GRETIL's Vishnu Purana (Venkateshvara Press 1910; CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) numbers 6,401 and was used only as a per-adhyaya count check; no GRETIL text was copied.
