Khusrau Khan was defeated, captured and executed; Ghazi Malik took the throne as Ghiyas al-Din Tughluq.
01The battle
Khusrau Khan opened the treasury and paid his troops in advance to keep them loyal, and drew up his army at Lahrawat outside the city. Amir Khusrau, who wrote the Tughluq Nama about these events, describes a hard fight in which Khusrau’s Baradu kinsmen fought to the end. Ghazi Malik’s charge broke the centre, and the sultan fled. He was found the next day hiding in a garden, brought before the victor, and beheaded.
02The Tughluqs
Ghazi Malik, finding no surviving Khalji heir, was proclaimed sultan as Ghiyas al-Din Tughluq. He built the fortress city of Tughlaqabad and sent his son Juna, now Ulugh Khan, south against Warangal. The dynasty he founded ruled Delhi until Timur’s invasion of 1398, and under his son Muhammad bin Tughluq reached farther south than any Delhi state before the Mughals. Tughlaqabad’s massive sloping walls still stand on the rocky ridge south-east of Delhi.
It ended the Khalji line and founded the Tughluq dynasty.
