Chach held the throne of Alor, beat his rivals and fixed the frontiers of Sindh from Kashmir’s border to Makran.
01The chamberlain who became king
The source is the Chachnama, a Persian work of 1216 translated from an older Arabic history of the conquest of Sindh. It says Chach, son of Silaij, entered the service of Rai Sahasi at Alor and rose to run the kingdom. When the Rai died childless, the queen Suhanadi kept the death secret until Chach was ready, then married him. Mahrat, a kinsman of the old king, came against him with an army; the chronicle says Chach overcame him by a stratagem in single combat.
02Marking the frontiers
Chach then marched to the four corners of his realm. In the north he subdued the governors up to Multan and reached the border of Kashmir, where, the Chachnama says, he planted trees to mark the boundary. In the west he crossed into Makran and set the line there too. He brought Brahmanabad and the lower Indus under his officers. His son Dahir would inherit this kingdom and lose his life defending it against Muhammad bin Qasim in 712.

Chach founded the Brahmin dynasty of Sindh, the last Hindu kingdom of the lower Indus before the Arab conquest.
