Ananta Manikya was beaten and fled to the king of Arakan; Bhulua was annexed.
01A frontier kingdom
Bhulua lay at the far south-eastern edge of the delta, today’s Noakhali, with Tripura to its north and the kingdom of Arakan across the water. Its Hindu rulers had a long history in the region. Ananta Manikya had allied himself with the Arakanese king, whose fleets raided the coasts of Bengal. When Islam Khan moved against the Bhuiyans, he sent Shaikh Abdul Wahid against Bhulua, with war-boats to carry the force through the creeks.
02Flight to Arakan
Ananta Manikya fortified himself on the Dakatia river, but the Mughal force drove him from his position. According to the Baharistan-i-Ghaibi, his chief minister went over to the Mughals and the raja fled to the court of Arakan. Bhulua was taken over as a Mughal district. For the rest of the century this south-eastern corner was the front line between the Mughals and the Arakanese and Portuguese raiders of Chittagong.
Bhulua carried the Mughal frontier to the borders of Arakan, where it stayed until the conquest of Chittagong in 1666.
