Shri Bhagwan calls this teaching the king of sciences and the king of secrets: pure, directly experienced, easy to practise, imperishable. In His unmanifest form He pervades the world; all beings rest in Him as the wind rests in space, yet He is not held by them. At the end of a kalpa beings enter His prakriti, and at the next He sends them forth, sitting as one indifferent, unbound by the act. The deluded scorn Him in human form; the mahatmas worship Him with undivided minds, chanting His name with firm vows. He is the yajna, the mantra, the ghee, the fire and the oblation; father, mother and grandsire of the world; Om and the three Vedas. Those who reach heaven by Vedic rites return when their merit is spent. For those who think of Him alone, He carries what they lack and guards what they have. A leaf, a flower, a fruit or water offered with love, He accepts. Even one of very bad conduct who worships Him alone is a sadhu, for His devotee never perishes.
इदं तु ते गुह्यतमं प्रवक्ष्याम्यनसूयवे । ज्ञानं विज्ञानसहितं यज्ज्ञात्वा मोक्ष्यसेऽशुभात्
idaṃ tu te guhyatamaṃ pravakṣyāmyanasūyave | jñānaṃ vijñānasahitaṃ yajjñātvā mokṣyase'śubhāt
To you, who do not cavil, I shall now declare this most secret knowledge, joined with its realisation. Knowing it, you will be freed from all that is inauspicious.
This is the king of knowledge and the king of secrets, supremely pure. It is known by direct experience, in keeping with dharma, very easy to practise, and imperishable.
But the great souls, Partha, sheltered in the divine nature, worship Me with minds turned to nothing else, knowing Me as the imperishable source of beings.
I am the ritual, I am the yajna, I am the offering to the ancestors, I am the healing herb. I am the mantra, I am the ghee, I am the fire, and I am the act of offering.
Of this world I am the father, the mother, the sustainer and the grandsire. I am what is to be known, the purifier, the syllable Om, and the Rig, Sama and Yajur Vedas.
I am the goal, the upholder, the Lord, the witness, the abode, the refuge and the friend. I am the origin, the dissolution and the ground, the treasure-house and the imperishable seed.
Knowers of the three Vedas, drinkers of soma, cleansed of sin, worship Me with yajnas and pray for the way to heaven. Reaching the holy world of Indra, they enjoy in heaven the divine pleasures of the devatas.
Having enjoyed that vast heaven, when their merit is spent they enter the world of mortals again. So, following the dharma of the three Vedas and desiring enjoyments, they gain only coming and going.
Those vowed to the devatas go to the devatas; those vowed to the ancestors go to the ancestors; those who worship spirits go to the spirits; and those who worship Me come to Me.
Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer in the fire, whatever you give, whatever tapas you undertake, Kaunteya, do it as an offering to Me.
So you will be freed from the bonds of karma, with their good and evil fruits. With your self joined in the yoga of renunciation, set free, you will come to Me.
