A Sanskrit poem by the Vijayanagara princess Gangadevi on her husband Kumara Kampana’s conquest of the Madurai Sultanate.

What it says

Kampana, son of Bukka I, first defeats the Sambuvaraya at Kanchi. Then a goddess appears to him with a sword and tells him of Madurai: its temples in ruin, worship stopped at the great shrines, the people suffering under the Sultan. She bids him free the land. The poem ends with his victory over the Sultan.

What it proves

It is a near-contemporary account, by a woman of the royal house, of how Vijayanagara ended the Madurai Sultanate and why the war was fought.
