A Sanskrit poem on a stone pillar telling how the Kadamba dynasty began, composed by the poet Kubja in the time of Shantivarman.

What it says

Mayurasharman, a Brahmana of Talagunda, went to Kanchi with his guru to study at the Pallava ghatika. Insulted there in a quarrel with a Pallava horseman, he put down the kusha grass, took up the sword, and won a kingdom. Kakusthavarma is later said to have built a tank here for the Mahadeva of the temple.

What it proves

It is the founding record of the Kadambas, the first kingdom of Karnataka, and shows Kanchi as a seat of Vedic learning.
