Harakeli Nataka slabs, Ajmer

Found
In the Adhai Din ka Jhonpra, Ajmer, built on the site of Vigraharaja IV’s college; recovered in the 19th century
Kept at
Government Museum, Ajmer

Black stone slabs carrying a Sanskrit play written by the Chahamana king Vigraharaja IV himself, with a second play written in his honour.

What it says

The Harakeli Nataka retells, after Bharavi’s Kiratarjuniya, how Arjuna fought Bhagwan Shiva come as a hunter and won the Pashupata weapon. The slabs are dated Samvat 1210. Other slabs carry the Lalitavigraharaja Nataka of the court poet Somadeva, about the king himself.

What it proves

They show that the site of the Adhai Din ka Jhonpra was a Sanskrit centre of the Chahamanas before the mosque was raised there after 1192.
