Hundreds of sandstone shelters where people lived and painted for thousands of years, the oldest gallery of human art in Bharat.

What it says

The paintings, mostly in red and white, show hunters with bows, bison, deer and boar, people dancing in lines, honey-gathering, and in later layers riders on horses and elephants. Excavation in the shelters found Stone Age tools in deep layers. The name is local tradition: the shelter where Bhima, the Pandava, sat.

What it proves

It shows people living and painting continuously in central India from the Stone Age into historic times.
