Jethe jato tethe tu majha sangati, chalavisi hati dharuniyan.
Chalo vate amhi tujha chi adhar, chalavisi bhar save majha.
Bolo jata baral karisi te nit, neli laj dhit kelo deva.
Avaghe jan maj jale lokpal, soire sakal pranasakhe.
Tuka mhane ata khelato kautuke, jale tujhe sukh antarbahi.
Meaning
Wherever I go, you are my companion; you lead me, holding my hand.
As we walk the road you are our only support; you carry my load along with me.
When I start to speak and babble, you set it straight. You took away my shyness, Lord, and made me bold.
All people have become my guardians; all are kin, friends dear as life.
Tuka says: now I play with delight; your joy fills me within and without.
About this bhajan
The abhang of the walking devotee. Varkaris setting out on the three-week wari to Pandharpur sing it, and so do Marathi families seeing someone off on a long trip. Its picture is simple, a child walking with a parent holding his hand, and it carries the sense of the whole Varkari path: God walks with you, and on that road everyone becomes family.
