01Appar’s shrine near Tiruvarur

Ogaiperaiyur, as the village is now called, lies off the Tiruvarur–Mannargudi road. Its one Tevaram padigam is Appar’s, which makes it the 114th shrine south of the Kaveri. The Agni tirtha is the temple tank and the narathai, a citrus tree, is the sthala tree. The Sangam poet Pereyil Muruvalar, whose verses are in the Purananuru and Kurunthogai, carries the old name of the place.
