Nothing stands without its ground, least of all bhakti
Kakbhushundi keeps up his chain of questions to Garuda, each pairing a fruit with its ground. Without contentment desire does not die, and while desire lives there is no happiness even in dreams. Can desire end without Rama's bhajan, any more than a tree grows without soil? Evenness of mind needs realised knowledge, as room needs sky; dharma needs faith, as smell needs earth. Splendour comes from tapas, good conduct from serving the wise. No siddhi comes without faith. Without faith there is no bhakti, without bhakti Rama does not melt, and without His grace no soul finds rest. So, he urges, drop false argument and doubt, and worship merciful Raghubir.
