Garuda asks the difference of jnana and bhakti
Kakbhushundi tells Garuda that those who leave such bhakti and toil for knowledge alone are like fools who abandon the wish-giving cow at home and search for milkweed sap. Shiva tells Bhavani that Garuda, delighted, says his doubt and grief are gone, then asks: saints and Vedas call nothing as rare as jnana, yet you did not honour Lomasha's teaching as you honoured bhakti; what is the difference? Bhushundi answers that both remove the pain of becoming, though the munis note a distinction. Jnana, detachment, yoga and realisation are masculine, he says, strong, while the feminine is by nature weak. A steady, detached man can renounce woman, but even a wise muni is shaken by a fair face, for woman is maya made visible.
