Rama's arrows cut down the rakshasa host
Shri Rama takes up the Sharnga bow, ties the quiver at his waist and goes out to crush the enemy. First he twangs the bowstring, and the rakshasa army is deafened. The Lord whose word is always true then looses a lakh of arrows, flying like winged serpents of Death, and everywhere the fearsome warriors are cut down. Feet, chests, heads and arms are severed; many a hero is cut into a hundred pieces. The wounded reel and fall, then rise and fight again. Struck, they roar like clouds, while many flee at the sight of those hard shafts. Headless trunks run about shouting kill, kill. In a moment the terrible host is cut down, and the arrows return of themselves into Raghubira's quiver.
