Uma leaves home for tapas

The Brahmin of Uma's dream said: daughter of the mountain, go and do tapas, knowing Narada's word to be true; your parents too will approve, for tapas gives joy and destroys sorrow and sin. By the power of tapas Brahma creates the world and Vishnu protects it; by tapas Shambhu dissolves it and Shesha bears the earth. All creation rests on tapas, Bhavani, so go and do it. Hearing this, the astonished mother calls Himavan and tells him the dream. Uma comforts her parents in many ways and sets out gladly for tapas. Her dear family, father and mother are stricken and cannot speak. Then the sage Vedashira comes and explains everything; hearing of Parvati's greatness, they are consoled.
