What happens in this chapter

Janaka will not turn back

Dasharatha courteously sends back the leading citizens and calls all the seekers, giving them ornaments, clothes, horses and elephants until every one is satisfied. They sing his praises again and again and turn home, keeping Rama in their hearts. But Janaka, bound by love, will not turn back, though the lord of Kosala keeps asking him to. At last Dasharatha says gently, go back now, great king, you have come a long way, and he gets down from his chariot and stands, his eyes flooding with love. Then Videha, with folded hands and words steeped in affection, says: how can I put my thanks into words? Maharaja, you have made me great. The two samadhis honour each other fully, and their love will not fit in their hearts.
