What happens in this chapter
Chariots gather outside the city
Heroes sworn to fame, hardened in battle, ride out and stand outside the city. They turn their clever horses through many paces and rejoice to hear the drums and conches. Charioteers decorate the chariots wonderfully with flags, banners, gems and ornaments; lovely whisks and tinkling bells make them outshine the chariot of the Sun. Countless black-eared horses are yoked to them, all beautiful and adorned, so fine that even munis are charmed. They run on water as on land, their hooves not sinking for their speed. Fitting out all weapons and gear, the charioteers call the warriors. Mounting the chariots one by one, the procession begins to gather outside the city, and good omens appear for everyone, whatever task he goes on.
रथ सारथिन्ह बिचित्र बनाये । ध्वज पताक मनि भूषन लाये ॥
चवँर चारु किंकिन धुनि करहीं । भानु-जान सोभा अपहरहीं ॥
ratha sārathinha bicitra banāye | dhvaja patāka mani bhūṣana lāye ||
cavam̐ra cāru kiṃkina dhuni karahīṃ | bhānu-jāna sobhā apaharahīṃ ||
सावँकरन अगनित हय होते । ते तिन्ह रथन्ह सारथिन्ह जोते ॥
सुन्दर सकल अलंकृत सोहे । जिन्हहिँ बिलोकत मुनि मन मोहे ॥
sāvam̐karana aganita haya hote | te tinha rathanha sārathinha jote ||
sundara sakala alaṃkṛta sohe | jinhahim̐ bilokata muni mana mohe ||
जे जल चलहिँ थलहि की नाई । टाप न बूड़ बेग अधिकाई ॥
अस्त्र सत्र सब साज बनाई । रथी सारथिन्ह लिये बोलाई ॥
je jala calahim̐ thalahi kī nāī | ṭāpa na būr̤a bega adhikāī ||
astra satra saba sāja banāī | rathī sārathinha liye bolāī ||
चढ़ि चढ़ि रथ बाहेर नगर, लागी जुरन बरात ।
होत सगुन सुन्दर सबहि, जो जेहि कारज जात ॥
car̤hi car̤hi ratha bāhera nagara, lāgī jurana barāta |
hota saguna sundara sabahi, jo jehi kāraja jāta ||
