The rakshasas uproot dharma across the earth
Ravana's orders are carried out at once. Terrible to look at, the night-walkers spread havoc in many shapes made by maya, doing whatever cuts dharma at the root and goes against the Veda. Wherever they find cows and Brahmanas, they burn that town or village. Good conduct vanishes; no one honours deva, Brahmana or guru. There is no bhakti of Hari, no yajna, japa or charity, and the Veda and Puranas are not heard even in dreams. If Ravana hears of japa, yoga, tapas or a yajna, he runs there himself and wrecks it, and drives out anyone who recites the Veda. The cruelty of these lovers of violence is past telling.
