The voice from the sky

For ten thousand years they gave up even air and stood on one foot. Seeing such tapas, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva came to Manu many times, tempting them in many ways to ask a boon, but the steadfast pair would not be moved. Their bodies were mere bones, yet their minds felt not the least pain. The all-knowing Lord, knowing the royal ascetics His own servants with no other refuge, spoke from the sky: ask, ask a boon. The voice was deep and soaked in the nectar of grace. Entering their hearts through their ears, that lovely speech, which could revive the dead, made their bodies sound and full, as if they had just come from home. Thrilled at nectar-like words, Manu prostrated, his heart overflowing with love.
