Villagers marvel; a bed beneath the shinshapa

Gazing at the beauty of Rama, Lakshmana and Sita, the village men and women talk lovingly among themselves. What kind of father and mother, friend, could send such children into the forest? Others say the king has done well, for the Creator has given their eyes this reward. Then the Nishada chief thinks of a lovely shinshapa tree and leads Raghunatha to the spot; Rama finds it pleasing in every way. The townsfolk pay their respects and go home, and Raghubara goes to perform his evening sandhya. Guha prepares a soft bed of kusha grass and tender leaves, and fills leaf cups with clean, sweet, soft fruits and roots. Together with Sita, Sumantra and his brother, Rama eats and lies down, while Lakshmana presses his feet.
