Lakshmana keeps watch; Guha recalls the palace

Knowing the Lord asleep, Lakshmana rises, gently tells the minister to rest, and a little distance away sits in the warrior's posture with bow and arrows ready, keeping vigil. Guha posts trusted watchmen here and there, then sits beside Lakshmana with a quiver at his waist and his bow strung. Looking at the sleeping Lord, the Nishada is overcome by love and grief; his body thrills and tears flow as he speaks to Lakshmana. The king's palace, he says, is lovely beyond even Indra's home. Its jewelled pavilions look as if Kamadeva had built them with his own hands. There are clean, wondrous chambers full of fragrant flowers, fine couches and jewelled lamps, every ease in every way.
