Bharata falls at Rama's feet; Rama embraces him

Bharata forgets joy and grief alike. Crying protect me, Lord, protect me, master, he falls to the ground like a staff. Lakshmana knows the loving voice and understands that Bharata is bowing. On one side pulls love for his brother, on the other the strong claim of serving his master. He can neither go to meet him nor ignore him; only a true poet could tell his heart. He holds to service, like a player hauling in a soaring kite. Bowing his head to the earth, he says with love: Raghunatha, Bharata is bowing to you. Rama hears and rises, overcome by love, cloth, quiver and bow flung aside. He lifts Bharata by force and clasps him to his heart. Seeing them meet, everyone forgets himself.
