Chapter 178: My only good is serving Rama

5 verses · 178 of 326

What happens in this chapter

My only good is serving Rama

My good lies in serving the lord of Sita, Bharata says, and my mother's crookedness has stolen it. No other way can do me good. What is a kingdom, a crowd of sorrows, worth without the sight of Lakshmana, Rama and Sita? Ornaments are idle without clothes, renunciation without reflection on Brahman, pleasures for a sick body, japa and yoga without devotion to Hari, a fine body without life. Without Raghurai all that is mine is empty. Give me leave to go to Rama; this alone is my good. If you seek good by making me king, it is the dullness of affection speaking. You hope for happiness from the rule of Kaikeyi's crooked son, who turned from Rama and lost all shame.
