B. B. Lal’s dig at the Kuru capital of the Mahabharata, which found Painted Grey Ware levels cut off by a great flood of the Ganga.

What it says

The second period of the mound held Painted Grey Ware, which Lal dated to about 1100–800 BCE, with mud houses and copper. A heavy Ganga flood washed away part of this settlement and it was abandoned. Lal set this beside the Puranic account that in the reign of Nichakshu the Ganga carried away Hastinapura and the king moved his capital to Kaushambi, where Painted Grey Ware levels were also found.

What it proves

It ties the Puranic record of the Kuru capital’s flood to an actual flood layer in the ground at Hastinapura.
