Meaning
The Lord of wonders, the son of ever-abiding northern Mathura, the lord of the banks of the pure, broad Yamuna, the jewelled lamp that shone in the cowherd clan, Damodara who brought glory to the womb of his mother: if we come to him pure, scatter fresh flowers and bow, sing him with our lips and hold him in our minds, then the faults already gone and those still to come will burn like cotton in a fire. Say it, our Pavai.
About this bhajan
Andal names Krishna by his places, Mathura where he was born and the Yamuna where he played, and then by the rope: Damodara, the child Yashoda tied to the mortar. The second half carries the teaching the Sri Vaishnava Acharyas drew from it. Worship with body, speech and mind, and sins past and future are burnt away. Commentators read “those still to come” as the faults a devotee may slip into after surrender, which Bhagwan does not let cling. The verse is often sung alone at the close of a home puja.
