Ghunghat ka pat khol re, toko piv milenge,
ghat-ghat mein vah sain ramta, katuk vachan mat bol re.
kah Kabir anand bhayo hai, bajat anhad dhol re.
Meaning
Lift the edge of your veil, and you will meet your Beloved. That Lord lives in every heart; do not speak bitter words.
Do not be proud of wealth and youth; the five-coloured garment of the body is false. Light the lamp in the palace of stillness, and do not stir from your seat.
Awake, by the right method, in the palace of colours I found my priceless Beloved. Kabir says: joy has come, and the unstruck drum is sounding.
About this bhajan
Kabir often speaks as a bride and God as the bridegroom. The veil is ignorance and pride; lift it and the Beloved is already there. One line carries plain ethics into the middle of the mysticism: since the Lord lives in every heart, a harsh word to anyone is spoken to him. The rest uses the language of the yogis, the sunn mahal of inner stillness and the anahad nad, the unstruck sound heard in meditation.
