01Where counsel was taken

Mantra here means counsel as much as sacred sound. The temple’s katha lists Indra, Vishwamitra, Shri Rama, Lakshmana, Jambavan, Sugriva and Hanuman among those who worshipped Mantrapureeswarar, and the tanks are named after Hanuman, Markandeya and Gautama. The mango is the sthala tree. Sambandar’s single padigam on the place made it the 107th Tevaram shrine south of the Kaveri. It lies about 3 km north of Muthupettai, on the road to Mannargudi.

Visiting

About 3 km north of Muthupettai on the Mannargudi road; buses run to Muthupettai from Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Pattukottai.
