01Come to Vaimur

After Appar and Sambandar had sung open the great doors of Vedaranyam, the Periya Puranam says, Shiva appeared to Appar in a dream and told him to come to Vaimur. Appar set off, and Sambandar followed, and both sang the Lord here. The Devi’s name means she whose speech is sweeter than milk. Vaimur is one of the seven Saptha Vidanga shrines of Thyagaraja; his shrine stands south of the sanctum, and to the north are shrines of the Lord and Devi of Vedaranyam. Eight Bhairavas line the eastern corridor.
