01The Lord who gave gold

The temple’s katha says Shiva left a gold coin each day for a poor woman devotee, and so he is Ponvaithanathar, Swarna Sthapaneswarar in Sanskrit. A brahmarishi and the siddhas are said to have worshipped here. Sambandar sang one padigam on Tiruchitremam. The village now called Sithaimoor lies near Alathambadi, between Tiruvarur and Thiruthuraipoondi. Some lists place the Tevaram’s Chitremam instead at Tiruchittrambalam near Pattukottai, where Shiva is worshipped as Puradhanavaneswarar.

Visiting

Sithaimoor is a village off the Tiruvarur–Thiruthuraipoondi road, near Alathambadi; the shrine is small, so check timings locally.
