What happens in this chapter

Varuna adorned with rita, Mitra sharp-sighted

Ratahavya Atreya speaks to Mitra and Varuna in Anushtubh. He bids the mortal to call these two wise Devas, destroyers of foes, and to offer to Varuna, whose form is rita. Their rule is unbroken and their lordship complete, set before men like the sun. With hymns the singer thinks on them and seeks the wide pasture for chariots. By their wondrous wisdom and pure skill they watch over people. Rita and great fame belong to the rishis, and their streams flow far across the broad earth. The last verse asks that the rishi and his patrons may strive for a wide self-rule, guarded by many.
