Kata, son of Vishvamitra, praises Agni in five trishtubh verses. Kindled according to the first laws, Agni is anointed with ointments, flame haired, clothed in ghee, purifying. As he sacrificed for earth and for heaven, so he is asked to sacrifice with this offering, as for Manu. Agni has three lives and three births of the dawn. The devas made him their messenger, carrier of offerings and the navel of immortality. The rishi asks him to follow the law of the hotar who went before him and to set the rite among the devas.
