Driving away Alakshmi, the ill-luck

Shirimbitha Bharadvaja speaks against Alakshmi, ill fortune, with Brahmanaspati in two verses and the Vishvedevas in the last, in anushtubh. Stingy one, one-eyed, misshapen, ever-shrieking, go to the mountain; we drive you off with the strong ones of Shirimbitha. Brahmanaspati, sharp-horned, is asked to thrust her away. Yonder log floats on the far shore of the sea with no man on it; seize it, hard to kill, and go to the farther side. Indra's foes are slain, gone like bubbles. The last verse turns to blessing: they have led the cow around, carried Agni round, and made fame among the devas. Who will dare to attack them?
