Agni, the banner of the people
Ketu Agneya praises Agni in gayatri. Let our thoughts speed Agni like a swift horse in the race, so we win prize after prize. Speed for us, Agni, the help and the host by which we bring home the cows, so that we gain bounty. Bring us solid, wide wealth in cows and horses; anoint the sky and turn the niggard Pani aside. Agni, you raised the unaging star, the sun, into heaven, giving light to the people. Agni, you are the banner of the clans, dearest and best, seated in the lap; awaken to the singer and give him vigour.
यया॒ गा आ॒करा॑महे॒ सेन॑याग्ने॒ तवो॒त्या ।
तां नो॑ हिन्व म॒घत्त॑ये
yayā gā ākarāmahe senayāgne tavotyā |
tāṃ no hinva maghattaye
आग्ने॑ स्थू॒रं र॒यिं भ॑र पृ॒थुं गोम॑न्तम॒श्विन॑म् ।
अ॒ङ्धि खं व॒र्तया॑ प॒णिम्
āgne sthūraṃ rayiṃ bhara pṛthuṃ gomantamaśvinam |
aṅdhi khaṃ vartayā paṇim
अग्ने॒ नक्ष॑त्रम॒जर॒मा सूर्यं॑ रोहयो दि॒वि ।
दध॒ज्ज्योति॒र्जने॑भ्यः
agne nakṣatramajaramā sūryaṃ rohayo divi |
dadhajjyotirjanebhyaḥ
अग्ने॑ के॒तुर्वि॒शाम॑सि॒ प्रेष्ठ॒ः श्रेष्ठ॑ उपस्थ॒सत् ।
बोधा॑ स्तो॒त्रे वयो॒ दध॑त्
agne keturviśāmasi preṣṭhaḥ śreṣṭha upasthasat |
bodhā stotre vayo dadhat
