The human body as a boat across samsara
Shri Rama goes on teaching the people of Ayodhya. The fruit of a human body is not sense pleasure, he says; even svarga is small and ends in sorrow. A man who spends this body on objects throws away nectar to drink poison, like one who drops the touchstone to pick up a gunja seed. The undying jiva wanders the eighty-four lakh wombs, driven by maya, time, karma, nature and the gunas, until Ishvara, out of causeless love, grants a human birth. That body is a boat on the ocean of becoming. Rama's grace is the favouring wind, the true guru the helmsman. Whoever has all this and still does not cross is ungrateful and dull, and goes the way of one who kills his own self.
