Chhands on Kali: homes, kings and famine
In three chhands Kakbhushundi paints Kali for Garuda. Ascetics spend fortunes on houses, tapasvis grow rich, householders go poor. Men drive out chaste wives and bring maidservants home. Sons honour parents only until they marry; then the in-laws are dear and their own family the enemy. Kings live in sin and punish at whim. Wealth passes for noble birth; the thread is a brahmin's only mark, a bare body a tapasvi's. Whoever rejects Vedas and Puranas is hailed as Hari's devotee. Famine comes again and again. Men perform japa, yajna and charity in a tamasic spirit, so the devas send no rain and sown rice does not sprout.
