Devas rejoice and Lanka mourns Meghanada

Hanuman lifts Meghanada's body without effort, lays it at the gate of Lanka and returns. Hearing of his death, devas and gandharvas gather in the sky in their vimanas, shower flowers, beat drums and sing the spotless fame of Shri Raghubira: victory to the endless one, support of the world; you have delivered all the devas. Having praised him they depart, and Lakshmana comes back to the ocean of mercy. When Ravana hears of his son's death he faints and falls to the ground. Mandodari weeps aloud and beats her breast, crying out in many ways. The whole city is in distress, and everyone calls Ravana wretched. Then Ravana consoles the women with many words: see in your hearts that the whole world is perishable.
