Sea creatures gather to see the Lord

The army sets out roaring, past all describing. Shri Rama climbs onto the head of the bridge and gazes over the wide sea. At once every creature of the deep rises to see him: makaras, crocodiles and serpents of many kinds, some with bodies a hundred yojanas long, some so huge they swallow those giants, and others before whom even these tremble. Yet now none harms another. They look on the Lord and will not move away, their hearts full of joy, so many that the water itself cannot be seen beneath them. The crowd on the bridge grows so great that some monkeys fly through the sky, and others climb onto the backs of the sea creatures and cross over on them.
