Ravana's last illusions are swept away
Ravana's deception brings out vetalas, bhutas and pishachas with bows, and yoginis holding human skulls, drinking blood and dancing. Cries of seize and kill fill every side. Wherever the monkeys run they find fire, then a rain of sand. Ravana roars again, and Lakshmana, Sugriva and the heroes fall senseless, crying, ah Rama. Then he makes many false Hanumans, who ring Rama with raised tails; the dark Lord stands among them like a tamala tree circled by rainbows. With one arrow Raghubira removes the maya. Tulsidas says that even Sharada and the Vedas, singing for kalpas, could not reach the end of this battle. The heads and arms are cut many times, yet Ravana does not die.
