Sati tells the assembly: all who spoke or heard the slander of Shankara will reap its fruit at once, and my father will repent bitterly. Where saints, Shambhu or the Lord of Lakshmi are reviled, she says, the rule is to pull out the slanderer's tongue if one can, or else to stop one's ears and leave. Mahesha is the Self of the world, its father and well-wisher, and her dull-witted father reviles him. This body is born of Daksha's seed, so she will cast it off at once. Holding the moon-crested, bull-bannered Lord in her heart, she burns her body in the fire of yoga. A cry rises through the yajna. Shiva's ganas begin to wreck it, and Bhrigu protects the sacrifice.
