A world of mixed good and bad

Tulsidas explains why he has described both saints and the wicked. The virtues of the one and the faults of the other are each a boundless ocean, and one cannot keep the good and drop the bad without knowing them apart. The Creator made both, and the Vedas sorted them. Veda, Itihasa and Purana agree that creation is a mixture. He lists the pairs: sorrow and joy, sin and merit, day and night, gods and demons, nectar and poison, maya and Brahman, the Ganga and the Karmanasha, heaven and hell. The doha concludes that the world of moving and unmoving things is full of good and bad, and the saint, like the swan, drinks the milk and leaves the water.
