The mothers ask about Tataka and Subahu

Hearing the king's gentle words, the queens have beds of gold set with gems spread with soft white sheets like the foam of cow's milk, with fine pillows, fragrant incense, jewelled lamps and lovely canopies, all past describing. Preparing a beautiful bed, they lovingly lay Rama down on it. Rama tells his brothers again and again to go to rest, and each lies down on his own bed. Seeing his dark, tender, lovely limbs, all the mothers ask with love: son, on the road you met the dreadful Tataka; how did you kill her? And the fierce night-roaming warriors, Maricha and Subahu, who counted no one in battle, how did you slay them and their helpers?
