Four thrones and the mothers' boundless joy

Four lovely thrones, as if made by Kamadeva's own hand, are set out, and the princes and princesses are seated on them. The mothers wash their feet and worship the couples by Vedic rite, waving lamps while whisks sway overhead. Many things are given away in offering, and the mothers glow with joy, like a yogi who has reached the supreme truth, a chronic invalid who has found amrit, a born pauper who has found the philosopher's stone, a blind man given sight, or a warrior victorious in battle. Their joy is a hundred million times more, for the moon of the Raghus has come home wed, with his brothers. The brides are shy at the household customs, and Rama smiles inwardly.
