Rama enters Ayodhya like monsoon rain
Tulsidas pictures the entry as the rainy season. Incense smoke darkens the sky like the gathering clouds of Shravana. Devas rain garlands from the wish-granting tree, like rows of white cranes. Jewelled festoons arch like Indra's rainbow. Women on the balconies appear and vanish like flashes of lightning. The drums roll like thunder, and the seekers are the chataka birds, frogs and peacocks of the season. Devas shower pure fragrant water, and the people rejoice like crops in rain. Seeing the hour, the guru gives the word, and the jewel of the Raghus enters the city. Remembering Shambhu, Girija and Ganesha, the king goes in joyfully with his company. Good omens appear, devas drum and rain flowers, and the wives of the devas dance and sing.
