The wedding feast and the playful songs

The guests take the first five morsels and begin to eat, delighted by the gaari, the teasing songs the women sing at a wedding meal. Sweets of many kinds are served, like amrit. The servers bring dish after dish whose names no one could know; the shruti speaks of four kinds of food, and here even one kind cannot be fully described. There are dishes of all six tastes, each in countless forms. As the men eat, the women sing their sweet teasing songs, naming each man of the party. The gaari suits the hour, and Dasharatha laughs with all his company. When all have eaten, water is offered for rinsing, and Janaka honours Dasharatha and his party with betel. The crown of kings returns happily to the guest lodge.
