Janaka prepares a great feast and sends for the wedding party. Cloths are spread along the way, and Dasharatha comes with his sons. Janaka washes everyone's feet with respect and seats each on a fitting stool. He washes the feet of the lord of Avadh with a love and courtesy words cannot hold. Then he washes Rama's lotus feet, the feet hidden in the lotus of Shiva's heart, and, regarding the other three brothers as equal to Rama, washes theirs too with his own hands. Seats are given and the cooks summoned. Leaf plates are laid, pinned with gold and set with jewels. In a moment the skilled, courteous servers place before everyone dal, rice and fragrant ghee from the cow, pure and delicious.
