What happens in this chapter

Dasharatha embraces his sons

The king falls before the muni and places the dust of his feet on his head again and again. Kaushika embraces and blesses him. Then the two brothers prostrate themselves, and the king's heart overflows. Holding his sons to his breast, he loses his unbearable grief, as though life had returned to a dead body. Next they bow their heads at Vasishtha's feet, and the great sage, glad with love, embraces them. The brothers salute the gathered Brahmins and receive blessings that please their hearts. Bharata and his younger brother bow, and Shri Rama lifts them up and holds them close. Lakshmana meets them full of love. The gracious, humble Lord then greets everyone fittingly: citizens, family, kinsmen, beggars, ministers and friends.
