The envoys reach Shri Rama's holy city and rejoice at its beauty. Called in by King Dasharatha, they hand him the letter, and he rises to take it himself. Reading it, his eyes fill with tears, his body thrills and his heart overflows. With Rama and Lakshmana in his heart and the letter in his hand, he stays silent, unable to say anything good or bad. Then, steadying himself, he reads it aloud, and the court rejoices at the true news. Bharata, playing nearby, hears of it and comes with his friends and brother. Shy with love he asks: father, where has the letter come from? Are my two dear brothers well, and in which land? At these tender words the king reads it again.
