Lakshmana's taunt about the guru's debt

Lakshmana says the whole world knows the muni's good nature. You cleared your debt to mother and father handsomely; only the guru's debt worries you, and you seem to have laid it on our heads. The interest has grown large, so call the creditor and I will open my purse at once. At these bitter words Parashurama raises the axe and the assembly cries out in alarm. Lakshmana keeps on: you show me your axe, and I spare you only as a Brahmin; you have never met a real warrior, only heroes at home. People call this improper, and Shri Rama checks Lakshmana with a sign. Seeing the sage's fire fed by these words like oblations, Shri Rama speaks words cool as water.
