Sita's prayer to Mata Bhavani
Thinking how hard Shiva's bow is, Sita walks away anxious, holding the dark form in her heart. As she goes, the Lord paints her picture within his mind with the soft ink of supreme love. Sita returns to Bhavani's shrine, bows and prays with joined palms. Glory to the mountain king's daughter, she says, the chakori gazing at the moon of Mahesh's face, mother of Ganesha and Kartikeya, mother of the world with a body bright as lightning. You have no beginning, middle or end, and even the Vedas cannot know your power. You bring forth, sustain and dissolve the world. Among devoted wives, Mother, yours is the first name.
परम प्रेममय मृदु मसि कीन्ही । चारु चित भीतर लिख लीन्ही ॥
गई भवानी भवन बहोरी । बन्दि चरन बोली कर जोरी ॥
parama premamaya mṛdu masi kīnhī | cāru cita bhītara likha līnhī ||
gaī bhavānī bhavana bahorī | bandi carana bolī kara jorī ||

bhava-bhava-vibhava-parābhava kārini | bisva-bimohani svabasa-bihārini ||
पतिदेवता सुतीय महँ, मातु प्रथम तव रेख ।
महिमा अमित न सकहिँ कहि, सहस सारदा सेष ॥
patidevatā sutīya maham̐, mātu prathama tava rekha |
mahimā amita na sakahim̐ kahi, sahasa sāradā seṣa ||
