The brothers serve their guru's feet at night

Night falls and, at the muni's word, everyone performs the evening sandhya. Vishvamitra tells old kathas and itihasa until two watches of the lovely night have passed. When he lies down, Shri Rama and Lakshmana press his feet. Tulsidas marvels at it: the very feet that yogis and renunciants chase through japa and tapas are here bowed before a guru, as if love had conquered the two brothers. Only after the muni tells him again and again does Shri Rama go to rest. Lakshmana then presses his brother's feet with great tenderness, and Shri Rama keeps saying, sleep now, dear one. At dawn, hearing the cock crow, Lakshmana rises, yet Shri Rama, Lord of the world, is awake even before the guru.
